" A Treasure of Texas"
It all began with a Gund pig named Hamlet. When Fred got out of the service in 1971, he and his wife, Karen traveled to Chicago for the weekend. In a plush animal store, they purchased the pig for their first niece.
"We were kind of inspired by it," Fred remembers. "We had this idea of combining stuffed animals, toys and candy together. My dad was a master pastry chef and candy maker, so I had some background there."
After our son Mike died in 1992, we wanted to do something that would have a positive effect on children. We opened our first store in 1996 - a 50/50 combination of stuffed animals and candy.
Today, On the Park in Kingwood, Texas offers our friends the finest toy and candy buying experience in Texas. We are recognized locally, statewide and nationally as one of the top specialty toy stores. Our most recent accomplishment was being named a "Treasure of Texas" by Morgan & Chase publishing in their 2008 guide to the best Texas has to offer. Other accomplishments include a 2007 profile in the nationally recognized TD Monthly online publication, a role in a 2008 documentary on the the International Toy Fair titled "Toy Frenzy", a 5- star rating in the 2007 Lila Guide, and 1999 Dealer of the Year for Manhattan Toy.
